Radar Plume: every field and setting explained

Every field well and every Format pane setting of Radar Plume: what it does, its possible values and its default value, premium features included.

This page describes everything Radar Plume offers: the field wells, then each card of the Format pane, in the order they appear. The default value of each setting is in bold, premium features carry a ★. For a first guided radar, see the getting started guide.

The fields of the visual

Axes and Values: the two modes. Without an Axes field (Measures mode), each measure of Values is an axis: the case of statistics and KPIs with different units. With an Axes field (Category mode), each value of the column is an axis and the measure gives the value; several measures without a Series field then give one polygon each (for example "Our offer" and "Market").

Series. A single measure is enough for 100 players: a slicer then keeps a few of them. "Year" series (2022, 2023…) take the style gradient, from light to dark. Beyond 60 series or 60 axes, only the first ones are drawn (message in edit mode).

Blank values. A blank point is not drawn; the polygon goes through the center at that place.

Tooltips and Dynamic format: see the shared basics.

The Format pane settings

The cards shared by every Plume visual (Plume Studio License, Style, Tooltips, Title, Source note, Frame, Language and numbers) and the two basic settings of the Interactions card are described in the common basics. Here are the cards specific to Radar Plume, in the order of the pane. Color and text settings have the fx button: a measure or a rule can drive them.

Layout

The overall shape of the radar: type, grid shape, rotation, size and center hole. These settings were in the "Radar" card before version 1.1; existing reports keep them.

SettingWhat it doesOptions (default in bold)
TypePolygons, or one bar per axisRadar (polygons) · Polar rose (radial bars) ★

Center hole (%) ★Empty disc in the center: small values stay visible0 (0 to 60)

Data colors

Radar

The look of the polygons (or of the polar rose bars): fill, line, markers and sectors.

SettingWhat it doesOptions (default in bold)
Fill opacity (%)Fill of the polygons; automatically lighter beyond 3 series while it keeps its default value16 (0 to 100)

Scale

How values are placed from the center to the edge.

SettingWhat it doesOptions (default in bold)
Axis scaleOne scale for all axes, one per axis, or as a % of each axis maximumAutomatic · Common to all axes · One scale per axis · Normalized (0–100 % of the axis maximum) ★

Maximum (common scale)E.g. 5 for ratings out of 5text; empty
Normalization: 0 %(shown when Axis scale = Normalized (0–100 % of the axis maximum))= zero · = smallest value of the axis

Automatic: common scale with an Axes field; one scale per axis when the measures have different formats or very different sizes (ratio above 4). Levels fall on round values: ratings up to 4.6 give 0 to 5 in 5 levels.

Per-axis settings ★

A card with a picker: Apply settings to All axes or to one axis (a measure, or a value of the Axes field). The setting of an axis wins over the one of All axes.
