Bump Plume: every field and setting explained

Every field well and every Format pane setting of Bump Plume: ranking, designs, markers, labels, axes, zones, views and playback, with their default values.

Lire en français

This page describes everything Bump Plume offers: the field wells, then each card of the Format pane, in the order they appear. The default value of each setting is in bold, premium features carry a ★. For a first guided visual, see the getting started guide. This page describes version 1.1 (reorganized Format pane: new Data labels, End labels and Gridlines cards, Playback card, axis drill-down, annotations on periods).

The visual's fields

FieldRequired? How manyWhat to dropWhat it doesExample
Axis (time)Yes1 to 4 (hierarchy)A column: date, year, month, number, sorted categoryThe periods, from left to right; several fields form a hierarchy you can drill intoSales[Year]
Legend (entity)Yes1A text columnWhat is ranked: one line per value (200 at most)Sales[Brand]
Value (ranked by the visual)Yes, unless Rank is used1A measureThe visual ranks the entities in each period; ribbon thicknessTotal revenue
Rank (optional)No1A measureA rank you already compute (1 = first), used instead of the ValueOfficial rank
Image ★No1A text measureEmbedded logo or photo (data:image/…;base64) at both endsLogo
Annotations ★No1A text measureA note on the entity's point in that period"Product recall"
TooltipsNoSeveralMeasuresAdded to the tooltipMargin rate

Drill-down. Drag for example Year then Quarter into Axis (time): the drill buttons in the visual header go down one level, back up, or expand everything, with combined periods ("2024 Q1"), as in the native ribbon chart.

Axis (time). A date or a number is sorted by the visual; text follows Power BI's order (sort it by a numeric column if needed). Value. A period without a value is not ranked for that entity; 0 is ranked. Image ★. The last non-blank image of each entity is used; a web address is ignored (message in edit mode).

Tooltips and Dynamic format: see the common basics.

The Format pane settings

The cards are described in the order of the Format pane.

The cards shared by all Plume visuals (Plume Studio License, Style, Interactions (shared settings), Tooltips, Title, Source note, Frame, Language and numbers) are described once in the shared basics: they are not repeated here. The background and rounded corners are set in the Frame card, and the fx button (conditional formatting from a measure) is available on every color and every text.

Data colors

This card picks the color of the lines. It is dynamic: one Color row per entity, with the fx button.
