These recipes reuse the Sales table and the Revenue and Web share measures of the getting started page. Recipes marked ★ use a premium feature: they work without a key, with a "Premium preview" watermark.

How do I show a rate computed on a total?

You have the number of positive answers and the number of answers received, and you want the waffle of the rate without writing a division.

  1. Drop the positive answers measure in Value.
  2. Drop the answers received measure in Total (100%).
  3. The waffle colors positive ÷ received: 412 out of 528 gives 78 cells and "78%" in large type. The tooltip shows the total.

Without a Total field, a measure formatted as a percentage is read as is. To force another rule: Format › Layout › Waffle › Percentage computed (Value is a ratio, Value in points, Share of the sum of the categories, The largest value = 100%).

How do I make one waffle per category?

One waffle per survey question, each with its percentage.

  1. Drop Question in Category, the positive answers in Value and the answers received in Total (100%).
  2. Format › Layout › Waffle › Mode: Percentage: one waffle per category.
  3. The waffles sit side by side, each with its percentage in large type and the question name. Waffles per row sets how many waffles per row (0 = automatic).

How do I share one waffle between several measures?

You have three measures: tasks done, in progress, to do (as a percentage of the total).

  1. Drop the three measures in Value, with nothing in Category.
  2. Each measure becomes a part of the same waffle, with its name in the legend.
  3. Fill order = Column by column, from the bottom: the waffle reads like a rising bar.
  4. To write the share of the first measure (tasks done) in large type: Headline value › Single waffle (Parts mode) = Percentage of the first category (the default, free); No headline value removes it.

How do I show a headcount as pictograms ★?

One person for 5 employees, one row per department.

  1. Drop Department in Category and the headcount measure in Value.
  2. Layout › Waffle › Mode: Units: 1 cell = N units (pictograms) ★; Value of one cell: 5.
  3. Cells › Cell shape: People · Person (free).
  4. Each department gets its row of people, its name at the start, its headcount at the end; the key "= 5 · Headcount" is at the bottom. Columns (cells per row) sets how many people per line before wrapping. Department names are set in the Category labels card (size, bold, category color, Maximum width (% of the visual)); when hidden, rows take the whole width.

How do I watch the parts change year by year ★?

The Web cells fill from one year to the next while the store cells empty.

  1. Add a Year column to the table and drop it in Play axis ★; keep Channel in Category and Revenue in Value.
  2. A play bar appears under the waffle. Click ▶: at each year, the cells that change switch one by one in fill order; the legend follows the year.
  3. Format › Playback ★: Frame shown on opening (The first one or The last one (most recent)), Duration of a frame (ms), Loop. The slider and the keyboard arrows move from one year to the next.

The play axis is a ★ feature: it works without a key, with the "Premium preview" watermark as soon as the field holds data. With Style › Animations off (or Windows "Show animations" off), frames change without animation.

How do I show a target ★?

Your coverage rate is 43.6% for a 60% goal.

  1. Drop the rate measure in Value and the goal measure in Target ★.
  2. The target cell is circled and the cells still missing to reach it are dashed; "Target: 60%" is written under the value, with "✓" once it is reached.
  3. Format › Target ★ › Marker: Circled cell only to remove the dashes.

How do I partly fill the last cell ★?

43.6%: 43 full cells and 60% of the 44th.

  1. Format › Cells › Last cell: Partly filled (exact fraction).
  2. The piece follows the fill direction (left to right, or bottom to top in columns). In Parts of a whole mode, a cell can be shared by two categories.

How do I use my own SVG icons ★?

One icon for the whole waffle, or a different icon per category.

  1. One icon: Format › Cells › Cell shape: Pasted SVG (below) ★, then paste the code in Pasted SVG ★, for example:
<svg viewBox="0 0 24 24"><path d="M12 2C6 8 4 14 12 22C20 14 18 8 12 2Z"/></svg>
  1. One icon per category: create a text measure that returns an SVG for each category and drop it in SVG icon ★:
Channel icon =
SWITCH (
    SELECTEDVALUE ( Sales[Channel] ),
    "Store", "<svg viewBox='0 0 24 24'><path d='M3 10L12 3L21 10V21H15V14H9V21H3Z'/></svg>",
    "Web", "<svg viewBox='0 0 24 24'><path d='M2 4H22V17H2Z'/></svg>",
    BLANK ()
)
  1. The icon takes the color of its category. The SVG is cleaned (scripts, links and images removed); a web address is never loaded.

How do I make one waffle per region ★?

The channel shares, one waffle per region.

  1. Keep Channel in Category and Revenue in Value, then drop Region in Small multiples ★.
  2. Each region gets its own titled waffle, with the same colors; the legend is shared.
  3. A click on a cell filters the page on the channel and the region. Layout › Categories and waffles › Waffles per row sets the layout.

How do I give each category a different shape?

  1. Format › Data colors: under each category, pick its Shape (for example Basic · Heart, Nature and weather · Drop).
  2. Same as the Cells card uses the general shape. The 22 free shapes never show a watermark; the others are ★.
