Treemap Plume: every field and every setting explained

Every field well and every Format pane setting of Treemap Plume: what it does, its possible values and its default value, premium features included.

Lire en français

This page describes everything Treemap Plume offers: the field wells, then each card of the Format pane, in the order they appear. Each setting's default value is in bold, premium features carry a ★. For a guided first visual, see the getting started guide.

The visual's fields

FieldRequired? How manyWhat goes inWhat it doesExample

Category (groups). The order of the fields in the well is the order of the levels. All levels are nested: each group has its header and its total (Levels shown at once setting to show only part of them). Blank values form a "(Blank)" tile.

Details. Adds a level below the last category. It mostly matches the logic of the Power BI treemap (Category + Details); with Treemap Plume, you can also put this field last in Category (groups).

Values. Negative or blank values have no area: they count as 0 and a message says so in edit mode. A group's area is the sum of its tiles.

Color (measure). Read by the Gradient, Diverging ★, Thresholds ★ and Stock map ★ colorings (a change already computed, see Change read from). As long as you have not changed the Coloring, filling this field switches the treemap to a gradient; if you chose a coloring that does not use this field, a message says so in edit mode. For a group shown as a single tile (limited levels), the color is the size-weighted average of its tiles.

Comparison ★. The change is (value − comparison) / comparison. It appears in the labels ("▲ +12%") and the tooltip, and colors the tiles with the Stock map coloring.

Image ★. Only embedded images are read: data:image/png;base64,…, raw base64, or SVG. Web addresses are never loaded.

Play axis ★. Premium feature: a "Premium preview" watermark without a key as soon as the field holds data. Numbers and dates are read in ascending order, texts in data order. Selecting a tile does not filter the year: it filters the category.

Format pane settings

The cards shared by every Plume visual (Plume Studio License, Style, Tooltips, Title, Source note, Frame, Language and numbers) and the two basic settings of the Interactions card are described in the common basics. Here are the cards specific to Treemap Plume, in the order of the pane. Color and text settings have the fx button: a measure or a rule can drive them.

Layout

How the tiles share the space.

SettingWhat it doesOptions (default in bold)
Tiling methodSquarified: near-square tiles, the most readable; Binary: cuts into two halves of equal weight; Alternating: columns at the first level, rows at the next; Voronoi: polygonal cells inside a shapeSquarified · Binary · Alternating (columns, rows) · Rows · Columns · Voronoi (cells) ★
Voronoi shapeOutline of the Voronoi; shapes without ★: circle, square, rounded square, rectangle, triangle, diamond, hexagon, star, heart, cloud, drop, bubble, arrow, person, house (shown when Tiling method = Voronoi (cells))Circle · Square · Rounded square · Rectangle · Triangle · Diamond · Hexagon · Star · Heart · Ellipse ★ · … (153 options, 22 of them free)
Tile orderThe first tile is at the top left; Data order follows the model's sort-by-columnValue, descending · Value, ascending · Name (A → Z) · Name (Z → A) · Data order (Power BI sort)

"Others" labelText of the tile (shown when Top N + "Others" = on)text; empty

Data colors

Chooses how the tiles are colored. The settings shown depend on the chosen coloring; with One color per category or One color per tile, one color per value is offered at the bottom of the card (fx button available for categories).

SettingWhat it doesOptions (default in bold)
ColoringColoring modeOne color per category (top level) · One color per tile (last level) ★ · Single color · Gradient by a measure · Diverging around a midpoint ★ · Thresholds (3 colors) ★ · Stock map: change (Comparison field) ★ · Highlight ★

Shade tiles within a groupSmaller tiles of a group are slightly lighter, so neighboring tiles of the same color stand apart (appears with One color per category)on

End value (empty = maximum)Value that takes the last color (appears with Gradient)text; empty

Change read fromColor field: a change measure (e.g. Change % = 0.034 or 3.4%) colors the tiles, whatever measure sizes them (market cap, sales…). Automatic: the Comparison field when it is filled, else the Color field; a measure with a percentage format, or whose values stay between -1.5 and 1.5, is read as a fraction (0.034 = 3.4%), otherwise as points (3.4 = 3.4%). (appears with Stock map)Automatic (Comparison field, else Color field) · Values compared with the Comparison field · Color field (change already computed)
Automatic change rangeThe strongest color matches a round change (±1, 2, 3, 5, 10%…) reached by 90% of the tiles shown. Off: the value below. (appears with Stock map)on
Change for the strongest color (%)At this change, the tile takes the strongest favorable or unfavorable color; at 0%, gray (appears with Stock map, automatic range off)3 (0.1 to 1000)
A decrease is favorableSwaps the colors: a decrease in green (costs, delays) (appears with Stock map)off
Highlighted categoriesComma-separated names, at any level (appears with Highlight)text; empty
