Range Plume: all fields and settings explained
Every field well and every Format pane setting of Range Plume: what it does, which values it accepts and what its default value is, card by card.
Lire en françaisThis page describes everything Range Plume offers: the field wells, then each card of the Format pane, in the order they appear. The default value of each setting is in bold, and premium features are marked with a ★. For a guided first visual, see getting started.
The visual's fields
| Field (exact name) | Required? | How many fields | What to drag in (column or measure, type) | What it's for | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Numeric field | Yes | 1 | A column of type number (whole or decimal) | The filtered column; its values make up the histogram | Listings[Price] |
| Row count (weight) | No, but strongly recommended | 1 | A count measure | Exact bar heights, accurate median, quartiles and deciles | Listing count |
| Measure (impact) | No | 1 | An additive measure (sum) | Amount kept by the range and its share of the total | Volume (total price) |
| Preselection | No | 1 | A measure that returns a range as text | Range selected when the report opens ★ | Preselected Price |
| Dynamic format | No | Several | Measures named card.setting | Drive a Format pane setting with DAX | — |
Numeric field. A single column, and it must be numeric: a text or date column is rejected as soon as you drag it. Can you put several series in it? No: Range Plume filters one column at a time. To filter both price and area, place two Range Plume visuals side by side; their filters combine.
Row count (weight). Without this measure, each distinct value counts as 1: a price shared by 50 listings weighs as much as a price held by just one. The bars then have misleading heights, and an ⓘ flags it in the summary box. Almost always use COUNTROWS of the table that contains the column.
Measure (impact). Choose an additive measure (a sum: revenue, volume, quantity). An average or a rate makes no sense as a "share kept". Can you add several measures? No, only one.
No Tooltips well. The tooltip for each bar (bin bounds, row count and share, measure) is built into the visual; the Tooltips card turns it on or off (formerly Histogram › Tooltip per bin).
Preselection. A measure that returns the range to select when the report opens, minimum and maximum separated by ;: Preselected Price = "150000;300000". With the Less than or equal to or Greater than or equal to style, a single value is enough. Premium feature ★; for common cases (without outliers, middle half, top 10%), a free Shortcut in the Preselection card is enough, with no measure. Details in the common basics. The Dynamic format field is explained in the common basics.
Format pane settings
Header
The Header card sets up the slicer's own title row, with its button to clear the filter.

Histogram
This card controls how the distribution is drawn under the slider.
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Show | Shows or hides the histogram (the slider and the input boxes remain) | On / Off |
| Number of bins (0 = auto) | Number of bars (bins of values); 0 lets the visual decide | 0 to 200 (0) |
| Horizontal scale | How values are spread along the axis. Auto switches to logarithmic when a few very large values squash the rest (positive values only) | Auto (log when very skewed) / Linear / Logarithmic |
| Bar height | Square root softens the peaks so that small bins become visible | Linear / Square root (softens peaks) |
| Style | Shape of the drawing. Dots (units) suits columns with few different values (number of rooms) | Bars / Filled curve / Dots (units) |
| Gap between bars (px) (appears if Style = Bars) | Space between two bars | 0 to 8 (2) |
| In-range color (empty = accent) | Color of the bars inside the chosen range | Color (empty = the style's accent) |
| Out-of-range color (empty = auto) | Color of the excluded bars | Color (empty = automatic) |
| Median marker | Draws a marker at the median (the value that splits the rows into two halves) | On / Off |
| Mean marker | Draws a marker at the mean | On / Off |
| Axis | Shows the tick marks under the histogram | On / Off |
| Tick count (appears if Axis is on) | Number of values written on the axis | 2 to 12 (5) |
Slider
This card controls the handles and how the range moves.
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Handle shape | How the two handles are drawn | Circle / Vertical bar / Pill |
| Handle size | Size in pixels | 10 to 30 (16) |

| Handle values | When to show the value above each handle | Always / On hover and drag / Never |
| Step (0 = auto) | Smallest gap between two positions of a handle (e.g. 1000 to move in steps of 1,000) | 0 or more (0) |
| Snap to | What the handles snap to while dragging | Step / Bin edges / Existing values / Nothing |
| Draw range on the histogram | Lets you draw the range with the mouse directly on the bars | On / Off |
| Drag the whole range | Lets you grab the whole range and move it without changing its width | On / Off |
Min / max inputs
The boxes where you type an exact bound. They understand "250000", "250k", "1.2M" or "1,200 €".

Presets
Buttons that set a range in one click. They are calculated on the current data, then sent as a fixed range: they are not recalculated at the next refresh.
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Show | Shows or hides the row of buttons | On / Off |
| Custom ranges ★ | Your named ranges, one per line or separated by ;, in the format Label: min-max; empty min or max = open-ended range | Free text (empty) |

Behavior
This card controls the shape of the filter (Between, ≤, ≥), when it is sent and the limits of the scale.
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Style | Like the native numeric slicer styles. Between: two handles, a range. Less than or equal to / Greater than or equal to: a single handle, everything below (or above) the chosen value. | Between / Less than or equal to / Greater than or equal to |
| Apply the filter | On mouse release filters as soon as you release a handle; With an "Apply" button waits for a click on Apply (with Cancel) | On mouse release / With an "Apply" button |
| Fixed lower bound | Start of the scale set by hand (otherwise the scale follows the data) | Number (empty) |
| Fixed upper bound | End of the scale set by hand | Number (empty) |
| Open-ended at the extremes | When a handle is at the end of the scale, values beyond it stay included (the bound is "open"); both handles at the ends = filter removed | On / Off |
When another slicer filters the page, the scale shrinks to the remaining rows. To keep it, drive the bounds with the Dynamic format field: two measures renamed for this visual behavior.boundsMin and behavior.boundsMax, for example CALCULATE ( MIN ( Listings[Price] ), REMOVEFILTERS () ) and CALCULATE ( MAX ( Listings[Price] ), REMOVEFILTERS () ) (ALLSELECTED () won't do: it follows the slicers).
Preselection
Selects a range when the report opens, in two ways: a built-in shortcut, with no DAX and free, or a measure dropped into the Preselection field that returns a range ("100;500", premium feature ★, watermark without a key). If both are set, the measure wins. The details (measure format, bookmarks, persistent filters) are in the shared basics.
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Shortcut (no DAX) | Range selected at opening without writing any DAX (free), computed from the values received: Without outliers removes on each side the share set in Presets › Share removed on each side (%) (5% by default, a setting shown when the "Without outliers" button is on), Middle half goes from the first to the third quartile. None: only the measure in the Preselection field counts. | None (measure only) / Without outliers / Middle half (Q1 to Q3) / Above median / Top 10% / Bottom 10% |
| Apply | Once per session: the preselection applies the first time the slicer is displayed, then the reader is in control (if they change the selection, it doesn't come back when they switch pages). Reapply on every display: it comes back every time the page is displayed and whenever the measure's value changes. | Once per session / Reapply on every display |
| Force | Replaces an existing selection: saved in the report, recalled by a bookmark or by persistent filters. When off, that selection is kept and the preselection doesn't apply. | On / Off |
| Value separator | Character that separates the minimum and maximum in the text returned by the measure ("100;500"). | Free text (;) |
| Report values not found (edit mode) | In edit mode, flags in the visual a measure whose text isn't a readable range. Readers never see this message. | On / Off |
Frame (extra option)
Here, the Frame card has one more option than the standard version.
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Transparent background | Removes the visual's background so you can see what is behind it | On / Off |
