Filter Bar Plume: all fields and settings explained
Every field well and every Format pane setting of Filter Bar Plume: what it does, which values it accepts and what its default value is, card by card.
Lire en françaisThis page describes everything Filter Bar Plume offers: the field wells, then each card of the Format pane, in the order they appear. The default value of each setting is in bold, and premium features are marked with a ★. For a guided first visual, see getting started.
The visual's fields
| Field (exact name) | Required? | How many fields | What to drag in | What it's for | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fields | Yes | 1 to 8 (1 to 3 free, 4 to 8 ★) | Columns | One menu (or section) per column, in the order of the well; each column gets its own filter | Team, Channel, Priority |
| Count (e.g. COUNTROWS) | No, but recommended | 1 | An additive measure | Numbers next to values (faceted), total after filters, limiting to combinations that exist | Ticket count |
| Preselection | No | 1 to 8 (one per field) | Measures that return text | Values selected when the report opens ★ | Preselected Channel |
| Dynamic format | No | Several | Measures named card.setting | Drive a Format pane setting with DAX | — |
Fields. Each column becomes an independent menu: unlike Basic Slicer Plume, several columns don't form a hierarchy. The menus follow the order of the well; to change it, reorder the fields in the well (you can't drag the menus inside the visual). The name shown for each menu is the field's name in the well: renaming the field in the well changes the menu name, and this name is also what the Single-selection fields setting uses. With more than 3 fields, the bar works with the "Premium preview" watermark if there is no key.
Count (e.g. COUNTROWS). A single measure, which must be additive. Without it, there are no numbers next to the values, no total after filters, and Power BI may return combinations that don't exist if the fields come from different tables.
Preselection. One measure per filtered field, which returns as text the value or values to select when the report opens, separated by ; ("Chat;Email"). The visual matches each measure to its field by its name as shown in the well (a measure renamed "Channel" for this visual goes to the Channel field), otherwise in field order. A field without a measure stays unfiltered. Settings: Preselection card; premium feature ★, details in the common basics.
This visual has no Tooltips well. Dynamic format: see the common basics.
Format pane settings
Header
A title above the bar. It is hidden by default for this visual: the bar only shows its menus.
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Show | Shows or hides the header row (the card's toggle). | On / Off |
| Text | Title text. | Free text (empty) |
| Size | Title size, in points. | 7 to 36 (14) |
| Bold | Makes the title bold. | On / Off |
| Italic | Makes the title italic. | On / Off |
| Underline | Underlines the title. | On / Off |
| Color (empty = text) | Title color. Empty: the style's text color. | Color (empty) |
| Background color | Fills the header row's background, like the native title background. | Color (empty) |
| Horizontal alignment | Puts the title on the left, in the center or on the right. When centered, the title stays in the middle even with the counter and the Clear button. | Left / Center / Right |
| Text wrap | A long title goes on two lines (breaking between words) instead of being cut with "…". | On / Off |
| Show divider | Draws a line under the header. | On / Off |
| Color (empty = lines) (appears if Show divider is on) | Line color. Empty: the style's line color. | Color (empty) |
| Line style (appears if Show divider is on) | Line pattern. | Solid / Dashed / Dotted |
| Width (appears if Show divider is on) | Line thickness, in pixels. | 1 to 6 (1) |
| Show value / selection count | Shows the number of filtered fields in the header, for example "2 selected". | On / Off |
| "Clear" button | Has no effect in this visual: the Filter Bar Plume header doesn't show a Clear button. To clear everything in one click, use the "Clear all" button in the Active filters summary card. | On / Off |
| Clear button label (appears if "Clear" button is on) | Replaces the button text. | Free text (empty = "Clear") |
Layout
The shape of the bar and how it behaves when the visual is narrow.
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Layout | Horizontal bar: fields side by side, each in a dropdown menu; ideal at the top of a page. Vertical panel: fields one below the other, in sections you expand; ideal in a side column. | Horizontal bar (dropdowns) / Vertical panel (expandable sections) |
| Minimum field width (px) (appears if Layout = Horizontal bar (dropdowns)) | Width below which a menu stops shrinking. | 80 to 400 (150) |
| Wrap when needed (appears if Layout = Horizontal bar (dropdowns)) | If the menus don't fit on one line, places them on several lines. | On / Off |
| Field names | Where to show each field's name: as a small label above the menu, before the value, or not at all. | Small label above / Before the value / Hidden |
| Expand the first section (appears if Layout = Vertical panel (expandable sections)) | Expands the first section when the visual is displayed. | On / Off |
| Collapse into a "Filters" button | When the bar collapses into a "Filters (n)" button that opens the filters full frame, like a responsive native slicer. Automatic: as soon as the fields no longer fit in the frame (the threshold depends on the width, the height, the number of fields and the layout). Below a chosen width: below the Collapse width. Never: the bar stays expanded. | Automatic (when the fields do not fit the frame) / Below a chosen width / Never |
| Collapse width (px) (appears if Collapse into a "Filters" button = Below a chosen width) | Below this width, the bar becomes a "Filters (n)" button that opens a full-frame panel. With the vertical panel, the threshold is capped at 220 px. 0: never collapsed. | 0 to 1200 (420) |
| Collapsed button label | Replaces the text of the "Filters" button. | Free text (empty) |
Value lists
The content and behavior of each menu.
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Search | Adds an accent-insensitive search box to menus with at least 7 values. | On / Off |
| Counts next to values | Shows the count of each value, which takes the bar's other fields into account. Uses the Count (e.g. COUNTROWS) measure. | On / Off |
| "Select all" row | Adds a row at the top of each menu that checks or unchecks the whole field; it appears half-checked when only some of the values are checked. | On / Off |
| Value sort | Order of the values in each menu. | Label A → Z / Count, descending / Model order |
| Values that became empty | What to do with values that no longer have any rows because of the choices made in the other fields: dim them at the bottom, hide them, or leave them as they are. | Dimmed, at the bottom / Hidden / Unchanged |
| Single-selection fields | Names of the fields (separated by ;) that accept only one value at a time: their check boxes become radio buttons. The name must be the one shown in the Fields well (case and accents are ignored). | Free text (empty) |
| Menu width (px) (appears if Layout = Horizontal bar (dropdowns)) | Width of open menus. | 160 to 600 (260) |
| Maximum values shown | Maximum number of values listed in a menu; beyond that, use search. | 20 to 5000 (300) |
| Text when nothing is filtered | Text shown for a field with no value checked. | Free text (empty = the visual's default text) |
| Blank label | Text shown for a column's blank value (cells with no content). | Free text (empty) |
With the keyboard, move between fields with ← →; ↓ opens a menu, ↑ ↓ move through the values, Space or Enter checks, Esc closes. Alt + click on a value keeps only that value in its field.
Applying filters
When the filters are sent to the report.
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Mode | Instant: every click filters the report right away. "Apply" button ★: changes stay in draft ("n unapplied change(s)") until you click Apply, which sends everything in a single query; canceling goes back to the applied state. | Instant (each click) / "Apply" button (single query) ★ |
| Button label (appears if Mode = "Apply" button (single query) ★) | Replaces the text of the Apply button. | Free text (empty) |
Active filters summary
The chips under the bar, one per filtered field, and the total after filters.
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Show | Shows or hides the chips and the total (the card's toggle). | On / Off |
| Chip content | Values (up to 2): the chip lists the selected values. Number of values: it only shows how many are selected. | Values (up to 2) / Number of values |
| "Clear all" button | Adds a button that removes all the bar's filters. | On / Off |
| Total after filters | Shows the total of the count measure after filters ("→ 1,240 tickets"). | On / Off |
| Total unit (e.g. orders) (appears if Total after filters is on) | Word placed after the total. | Free text (empty) |
| Text before chips | Text placed before the first chip (for example "Active filters:"). | Free text (empty) |
Each chip can be removed with one click: it removes the filter on its field.
Preselection
Selects values when the report opens: drop into the Preselection field one measure per filtered field (in field order, or named like the field), which returns a value or a list ("Paris;Lyon"). Premium feature ★: without a key, it applies with the watermark. Without a measure, this card has no effect. The details (measure format, bookmarks, persistent filters) are in the shared basics.
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Apply | Once per session: the preselection applies the first time the slicer is displayed, then the reader is in control (if they change the selection, it doesn't come back when they switch pages). Reapply on every display: it comes back every time the page is displayed and whenever the measure's value changes. | Once per session / Reapply on every display |
| Force | Replaces an existing selection: saved in the report, recalled by a bookmark or by persistent filters. When off, that selection is kept and the preselection doesn't apply. | On / Off |
| Value separator | Character that separates the values in the text returned by the measure ("Paris;Lyon"). | Free text (;) |
| Report values not found (edit mode) | In edit mode, flags in the visual the measure's values that don't exist in the list (typo, filtered-out value). Readers never see this message. | On / Off |
Frame: extra setting
This visual's Frame card has one more option than the standard version:
| Setting | What it does | Options (default in bold) |
|---|---|---|
| Transparent background | Removes the visual's background: you see through to what is underneath (page background, banner). | On / Off |
Shared cards (Plume Studio License, Style, Frame, Language and numbers): see the shared basics.
