This page describes everything Treemap Plume offers: the field wells, then each card of the Format pane, in the order they appear. Each setting's default value is in **bold**, premium features carry a ★. For a guided first visual, see the [getting started guide](/en/tutorials/treemap-plume-prise-en-main).

## The visual's fields

| Field | Required? | How many | What goes in | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Category (groups) | Yes (or Details) | 1 to 6 | Columns | The levels, from the largest group to the smallest | `Region`, `City` |
| Details | No | 1 | A column | One last level of sub-tiles, like the Power BI treemap | `Product` |
| Values | No | 1 | A measure | The area of the tiles (no measure: row count) | `Revenue` |
| Color (measure) | No | 1 | A measure | Gradient colors (automatic as soon as the field is filled), diverging ★, thresholds ★, or the change of a stock map ★ | `Margin rate` |
| Comparison ★ | No | 1 | A measure | The previous value: change ▲▼, stock map | `Revenue 2024` |
| Image ★ | No | 1 | A text column or measure | A base64 image in each tile | `Logo` |
| Small multiples ★ | No | 1 | A column | One treemap per value, side by side | `Channel` |
| Play axis ★ | No | 1 | A column (year, date, ordered category) | Animates the treemap from one value to the next | `Year` |
| Tooltips | No | Several | Measures | Added to each tile's tooltip | `Orders` |
| Dynamic format | No | Several | Measures named card.setting | Drive a setting with DAX (see [Dynamic formats](/en/tutorials/formats-dynamiques)) | `title.text` |

**Category (groups).** The order of the fields in the well is the order of the levels. All levels are nested: each group has its header and its total (**Levels shown at once** setting to show only part of them). Blank values form a "(Blank)" tile.

**Details.** Adds a level below the last category. It mostly matches the logic of the Power BI treemap (Category + Details); with Treemap Plume, you can also put this field last in **Category (groups)**.

**Values.** Negative or blank values have no area: they count as 0 and a message says so in edit mode. A group's area is the sum of its tiles.

**Color (measure).** Read by the *Gradient*, *Diverging ★*, *Thresholds ★* and *Stock map ★* colorings (a change already computed, see **Change read from**). As long as you have not changed the **Coloring**, filling this field switches the treemap to a gradient; if you chose a coloring that does not use this field, a message says so in edit mode. For a group shown as a single tile (limited levels), the color is the size-weighted average of its tiles.

**Comparison ★.** The change is (value − comparison) / comparison. It appears in the labels ("▲ +12%") and the tooltip, and colors the tiles with the *Stock map* coloring.

**Image ★.** Only embedded images are read: `data:image/png;base64,…`, raw base64, or SVG. Web addresses are never loaded.

**Play axis ★.** Premium feature: a "Premium preview" watermark without a key as soon as the field holds data. Numbers and dates are read in ascending order, texts in data order. Selecting a tile does not filter the year: it filters the category.

## Format pane settings

The cards shared by every Plume visual (Plume Studio License, Style, Tooltips, Title, Source note, Frame, Language and numbers) and the two basic settings of the Interactions card are described in [the common basics](/en/tutorials/bien-demarrer-visuels-plume). Here are the cards specific to Treemap Plume, in the order of the pane. Color and text settings have the **fx** button: a measure or a rule can drive them.

### Layout

How the tiles share the space.

| Setting | What it does | Options (default in **bold**) |
|---|---|---|
| Tiling method | *Squarified*: near-square tiles, the most readable; *Binary*: cuts into two halves of equal weight; *Alternating*: columns at the first level, rows at the next; *Voronoi*: polygonal cells inside a shape | **Squarified** · Binary · Alternating (columns, rows) · Rows · Columns · Voronoi (cells) ★ |
| Voronoi shape | Outline of the Voronoi; shapes without ★: circle, square, rounded square, rectangle, triangle, diamond, hexagon, star, heart, cloud, drop, bubble, arrow, person, house (shown when Tiling method = *Voronoi (cells)*) | **Circle** · Square · Rounded square · Rectangle · Triangle · Diamond · Hexagon · Star · Heart · Ellipse ★ · … (153 options, 22 of them free) |
| Tile order | The first tile is at the top left; *Data order* follows the model's sort-by-column | **Value, descending** · Value, ascending · Name (A → Z) · Name (Z → A) · Data order (Power BI sort) |
| Stable layout while playing | With a play axis: tiles keep their place from one frame to the next | **on** |
| Levels shown at once (0 = all) | *1*: one level, double-click to drill down, like the Power BI treemap | **0** (0 to 7) |
| Space between tiles (px) | Gap between two neighboring tiles | **1** (0 to 12) |
| Space between groups (px) | Gap between two groups | **3** (0 to 24) |
| Tile corner radius | Rounded corners | **0** (0 to 16) |
| Top N + "Others" ★ | In each group, the N largest tiles; the rest in a hatched "Others" tile | **off** |
| Tiles kept per group | N (shown when Top N + "Others" = on) | **10** (1 to 500) |
| "Others" label | Text of the tile (shown when Top N + "Others" = on) | text; **empty** |

### Data colors

Chooses how the tiles are colored. The settings shown depend on the chosen coloring; with *One color per category* or *One color per tile*, one color per value is offered at the bottom of the card (fx button available for categories).

| Setting | What it does | Options (default in **bold**) |
|---|---|---|
| Coloring | Coloring mode | **One color per category (top level)** · One color per tile (last level) ★ · Single color · Gradient by a measure · Diverging around a midpoint ★ · Thresholds (3 colors) ★ · Stock map: change (Comparison field) ★ · Highlight ★ |
| Color | Color of every tile (appears with *Single color*) | color; **empty** |
| *One line per value* | Color of each category (or each tile); fx button available for categories | color; **the palette one** |
| Shade tiles within a group | Smaller tiles of a group are slightly lighter, so neighboring tiles of the same color stand apart (appears with *One color per category*) | **on** |
| Start value (empty = minimum) | Value that takes the first gradient color (appears with *Gradient*) | text; **empty** |
| End value (empty = maximum) | Value that takes the last color (appears with *Gradient*) | text; **empty** |
| Midpoint value | Value that takes the middle color (appears with *Diverging*) | text; **0** |
| Low threshold | Below: first color (appears with *Thresholds*) | text; **empty** |
| High threshold | Above: third color (appears with *Thresholds*) | text; **empty** |
| Below the low threshold | Color | color; **#C0392B** |
| Between thresholds | Color | color; **#B8BCC6** |
| Above the high threshold | Color | color; **#2E7D4F** |
| Change read from | Color field: a change measure (e.g. Change % = 0.034 or 3.4%) colors the tiles, whatever measure sizes them (market cap, sales…). Automatic: the Comparison field when it is filled, else the Color field; a measure with a percentage format, or whose values stay between -1.5 and 1.5, is read as a fraction (0.034 = 3.4%), otherwise as points (3.4 = 3.4%). (appears with *Stock map*) | **Automatic (Comparison field, else Color field)** · Values compared with the Comparison field · Color field (change already computed) |
| Automatic change range | The strongest color matches a round change (±1, 2, 3, 5, 10%…) reached by 90% of the tiles shown. Off: the value below. (appears with *Stock map*) | **on** |
| Change for the strongest color (%) | At this change, the tile takes the strongest favorable or unfavorable color; at 0%, gray (appears with *Stock map*, automatic range off) | **3** (0.1 to 1000) |
| A decrease is favorable | Swaps the colors: a decrease in green (costs, delays) (appears with *Stock map*) | **off** |
| Highlighted categories | Comma-separated names, at any level (appears with *Highlight*) | text; **empty** |
| Highlight color (empty = accent) | Color of the named tiles | color; **empty** |
| Other tiles color (empty = gray) | Color of the other tiles | color; **empty** |

### Groups (headers and borders)

The header names each group and gives its total; clicking it zooms into the group.

| Setting | What it does | Options (default in **bold**) |
|---|---|---|
| Group headers | Band at the top of each group large enough | **on** |
| Text size | Header text size | **10** (7 to 24) |

| Group total | Adds the total after the name | **on** |
| Header background | Band color | **Group color** · Neutral · None |
| Text color (empty = automatic) | White or dark depending on the background when empty | color; **empty** |
| Border around groups | Draws an outline around each group | **off** |
| Width | Outline width (shown when Border around groups = on) | **1** (0.5 to 6) |
| Color (empty = secondary text) | Outline color (shown when Border around groups = on) | color; **empty** |
| Gap color between tiles (empty = background) | Color of the gaps and of the Voronoi outlines | color; **empty** |

| Display units | Thousands, millions… | **Auto** · None · Thousands · Millions · Billions |
| Decimals (-1 = auto) | Number of decimals | **-1** (-1 to 6) |
| Prefix | Text before the value | text; **empty** |
| Suffix (e.g. €) | Text after the value | text; **empty** |

A label that does not fit in its tile, even at the minimum size, is hidden rather than cut to "C…".

### Category labels

The name written in each tile, set apart from the values (like the category labels of the native treemap). Before version 1.1, these settings were in the "Labels" card; existing reports keep them.

| Setting | What it does | Options (default in **bold**) |
