This page describes everything Date Picker Plume offers: the field wells, then each card of the Format pane, in the order they appear. Each setting's default value is in **bold**, and premium features carry a ★. For a guided first visual, see [getting started](/en/tutorials/segment-calendrier-dates).

## The visual's fields

| Field (exact name) | Required? | How many fields | What to drag in (column or measure, type) | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| **Date** | Yes | 1 | A date **column** (Date or Date/time), not the hierarchy | The filtered column; it forms the days of the calendar | `Calendar[Date]` |
| **Value (data and heatmap)** | No, but recommended | 1 | A **measure** | Grays out the days where it is blank; colors the calendar (heatmap ★) | `Revenue` |
| **Tooltips** | No | Several | **Measures** | Added to each day's tooltip | `Transaction Count` |
| **Preselection** | No | 1 | A **measure** that returns a date or a range as text | Period selected when the report opens ★ | `Preselected Period` |
| **Dynamic format** | No | Several | Measures named `card.setting` | Drive a Format pane setting with DAX | — |

**Date.** A single column, of date type. A column of years is rejected with a clear message. A *Date/time* column is grouped by day. If a date hierarchy is dragged in, the filter still targets the original column, but the display is not suitable: choose **Date**.

**Value (data and heatmap).** A date is "without data" if it is not in the column, or if this measure is blank for it. Can you put several measures in it? No, only one; add the others to **Tooltips**. Without a measure, every date in the column counts as "with data."

**Tooltips.** Each day's tooltip shows the date, the value, your tooltip measures, the week, the public holiday if any, and the status (without data, not selectable). The **Tooltips** card turns it on or off.

**Preselection.** A measure that returns the period to select when the report opens, in ISO dates: a date (`"2026-03-31"`) or a range (`"2026-01-01;2026-03-31"`). Computed example: `Preselected Period = FORMAT ( MAX ( Calendar[Date] ) - 6, "yyyy-mm-dd" ) & ";" & FORMAT ( MAX ( Calendar[Date] ), "yyyy-mm-dd" )`. Premium feature ★; for common cases (this month, last 30 days, YTD), a free **Shortcut** in the **Preselection** card is enough, with no measure. Details in [the shared basics](/en/tutorials/bien-demarrer-visuels-plume).

For the **Dynamic format** field, see [the shared basics](/en/tutorials/bien-demarrer-visuels-plume).

### Selection

How dates are picked, and how the selection is summarized.

| Setting | What it does | Options (default in **bold**) |
|---|---|---|
| Mode | *Range*: 1st click = start, 2nd click = end (Shift + click extends, Esc cancels). *Single date*. *Whole week* and *Whole month*: one click selects the whole week or month. *Several dates ★*: each click adds or removes a date (Shift + click adds the selectable dates in between) | ***Range (two clicks)*** / *Single date* / *Whole week* / *Whole month* / *Several dates ★* |

| Text when nothing is selected | Text shown when nothing is chosen | Free text (**empty** = "All dates") |

### Selectable dates

The rules that decide which days can be picked. A date is selectable if it meets **all** the conditions of this card.

| Setting | What it does | Options (default in **bold**) |
|---|---|---|
| Dates without data | How to handle days missing from the column or whose **Value** is blank | ***Greyed out, not selectable*** / *Greyed out but selectable* / *Like the others* |
| Value equal to 0 = no data | Also treats days at 0 as "without data" | On / **Off** |
| Monday | Mondays are selectable | **On** / Off |
| Tuesday | Same for Tuesdays | **On** / Off |
| Wednesday | Same for Wednesdays | **On** / Off |
| Thursday | Same for Thursdays | **On** / Off |
| Friday | Same for Fridays | **On** / Off |
| Saturday | Same for Saturdays | **On** / Off |
| Sunday | Same for Sundays | **On** / Off |
| Position in the period | Keeps only one specific day of each period | ***Any date*** / *Last day of the month* / *First day of the month* / *Last working day of the month* / *First working day of the month* / *Last date with data in the month* / *Last day of the week* / *First day of the week* / *Last day of the quarter* / *Last day of the year* |
| Grey out public holidays | Makes public holidays non-selectable (the list chosen in **Calendar**, plus your closures) | On / **Off** |
| Grey out future dates | Makes dates after today non-selectable | On / **Off** |
| Advanced rules ★ | Rules written in English or French, one per line (see the dedicated how-to guide) | Free text (**empty**) |
| Look of non-selectable dates | How days that cannot be picked are drawn | ***Faded*** / *Faded and struck through* / *Hidden (empty cell)* |

### Heatmap ★

Colors each day by the **Value** measure, like a heatmap. Without a measure, nothing is drawn (and no watermark appears).

| Setting | What it does | Options (default in **bold**) |
|---|---|---|
| Show ★ | Turns the heatmap on | On / **Off** |
| Colors | Where the colors come from: the style's gradient palette, from background to accent, or two colors you choose | ***Gradient palette (style)*** / *From background to accent* / *Chosen start and end* |
| Low values color (appears if Colors = *Chosen start and end*) | Color of the smallest values | Color (**empty**) |
| High values color (appears if Colors = *Chosen start and end*) | Color of the largest values | Color (**empty**) |
| Scale | *Linear*: color proportional to the value. *By rank*: each shade covers the same number of days. *Distance from zero*: diverging palette around 0 (positive and negative values) | ***Linear*** / *By rank (quantiles)* / *Distance from zero (diverging)* |
| Reverse | Reverses the direction of the gradient | On / **Off** |
| Intensity (%) | Softens the colors | 10 to 100 (**100**) |
| Value in the cells | Writes the value in each cell (larger cells, black or white text depending on contrast) | On / **Off** |
| Legend (min – max) | Shows the legend with the measure name | **On** / Off |

Colors are computed over every date with data, not just the months shown: they stay comparable from one month to the next.

### Shortcuts

The buttons for common dates. Each one has its own toggle. They adapt to the mode (in *Whole month* mode, "Last month" selects the month; in *Several dates ★* mode, every selectable date of the period). They send **fixed dates**.

| Setting | What it does | Options (default in **bold**) |
|---|---|---|
| Show | Shows or hides the shortcuts | **On** / Off |

| Today | Selects today's date | On / **Off** |
| Yesterday | Selects the day before | On / **Off** |
| Last 7 days | The last 7 days | **On** / Off |

| This week | The week of the reference date | On / **Off** |
| Last week | The previous week | On / **Off** |
| Month to date | The month of the reference date | **On** / Off |
| Last month | The previous month | On / **Off** |
| Quarter to date | The quarter of the reference date | On / **Off** |
| Year to date | From January 1 to the reference date | **On** / Off |
| Last year | The previous year | On / **Off** |
| Last 12 months | The last 12 months | On / **Off** |
| Shortcuts reference date | Date from which "Last 7 days" is counted | ***Latest date in the data*** / *Today* |
| Custom shortcuts ★ | Your named periods, one per line or separated by `;`, in the format `Label: start - end` (yyyy-mm-dd or dd/mm/yyyy) | Free text (**empty**) |
| Position | Where the shortcuts go | ***Top*** / *Bottom* / *Left side* |

### Behavior

When the filter is sent. The selection offered on opening has moved to the **Preselection** card.

| Setting | What it does | Options (default in **bold**) |
|---|---|---|
| Apply the filter | Filter on click, or wait for a click on **Apply** (with **Cancel**) | ***As soon as selected*** / *With an "Apply" button* |

### Number format

The format of the **Value** measure as written by the visual (values in the cells, heatmap legend, tooltips).

| Setting | What it does | Options (default in **bold**) |
|---|---|---|
| Display units | Shortens large numbers ("2.4K") | ***Auto*** / *None* / *Thousands* / *Millions* / *Billions* |
| Decimals (-1 = auto) | Digits after the decimal point | -1 to 6 (**-1**) |
| Prefix | Text before each number (for example "$") | Free text (**empty**) |
| Suffix (e.g. €) | Text after each number; add a space before "€" if you want one | Free text (**empty**) |

### Preselection

Selects a date or a period when the report opens, in two ways: a built-in **shortcut**, with no DAX and free, or a measure dropped into the **Preselection** field that returns a date or a range in ISO dates ("2026-01-01;2026-03-31", premium feature ★, watermark without a key). If both are set, the measure wins. The details (measure format, bookmarks, persistent filters) are in [the shared basics](/en/tutorials/bien-demarrer-visuels-plume).

| Setting | What it does | Options (default in **bold**) |
|---|---|---|
| Shortcut (no DAX) | Period selected at opening without writing any DAX (free), calculated from the **Shortcuts reference date** (**Shortcuts** card). *None*: only the measure in the **Preselection** field counts. | ***None (measure only)*** / *Today* / *Latest date in the data* / *Last 7 days* / *Last 30 days* / *Last N days* / *This week* / *This month* / *Previous month* / *Year to date (YTD)* / *Last 12 months* |
| N (days) (appears if Shortcut (no DAX) = *Last N days*) | Number of days for the *Last N days* shortcut. | 1 to 3660 (**30**) |
| Apply | *Once per session*: the preselection applies the first time the slicer is displayed, then the reader is in control (if they change the selection, it doesn't come back when they switch pages). *Reapply on every display*: it comes back every time the page is displayed and whenever the measure's value changes. | ***Once per session*** / *Reapply on every display* |
| Force | Replaces an existing selection: saved in the report, recalled by a bookmark or by persistent filters. When off, that selection is kept and the preselection doesn't apply. | On / **Off** |
| Value separator | Character that separates the start and end of the range in the text returned by the measure ("2026-01-01;2026-03-31"). | Free text (**;**) |
| Report values not found (edit mode) | In edit mode, flags in the visual a measure whose text isn't a readable date. Readers never see this message. | **On** / Off |

Reports created with an earlier version keep their old **Default selection** (**Behavior** card): it becomes this shortcut. In *Several dates ★* mode, the measure can also return a list of days ("2026-03-02;2026-03-09").

### Frame (extra option)

Here the **Frame** card has one more option than the standard version, **on by default** in this visual.

| Setting | What it does | Options (default in **bold**) |
|---|---|---|
| Transparent background | Removes the visual's background. With *Compact field*, the frame stays transparent so the field can sit on top of another visual; with the visible calendar, the frame becomes opaque as soon as the style has a background | **On** / Off |
